Yeah. Brilliant. The big reveal just tied everything into place and gave the whole series a hitherto unknown purpose.

Mac has been a hard character to like throughout (I’ve always preferred the Broker, Buddy and Karl) but he finally got to have some lighter, more comedic moments in spite of the whole Quang Thang /associated fallout plot.

Quang Thang itself was well done although the bar has been set pretty high by the likes of Platoon and (if we’re talking TV action)Banshee. I really hope there’s a 2nd season!

That was best show on tv this year! I hoping for a season 2.
I think the kid in the mask that is haunting his hallucinations is his subconscious putting it all together. He was trying to figure out what the still was-we know it was to make the poppies into heroin.
Did the Broker work for the CIA? The average Joe can’t just walk into a was zone.
This was great! I am really hoping for a season 2!

While definitely a very good show, there have been better shows this year…Personally for me, Horace and Pete, The Night Of immediately springs to mind, although the themes and subject matter are refreshing. These type of shows hinge on a second season. There’s so much character study to do and an 8 episode season is a little bit too short to delve into details. Its almost impossible to conclude on anything. But, I will admit, Quarry has the best soundtrack of any shows in a long while. Cheers

I know plenty of people have had a hard time warming to Mac as a character, and while the likes of The Broker and Buddy are more interesting, I never really had that problem. I agree with you that by giving him lighter, more comedic moments, the character improved, as did the show itself. The last few episodes of the season seemed to have a lot more comedy (not that it was a laugh riot), and I think that was a sign of the show settling into itself and playing around more with tone, which is great.

From a choreography standpoint, Banshee has certainly set the bar for action on TV, while in terms of pure spectacle that honour has to go to Game of Thrones. But I would argue that Quan Thang was perhaps better than anything either of those shows ever did, possibly even surpassing the Nola/Burton fight in Banshee and GoT’s Hardhome, because, as I outlined in the review, not only was it technically incredible, but the way it was executed made the viewing experience incredibly powerful and immersive, grounding viewers in the action to an extent that I don’t think TV has ever done before.

    Fingers crossed for season 2!

Brilliant finale. Looking back over the season even the episodes I felt that lagged a bit turned out to be essential in building such an amazing world.

Buddy needs vengeance or at least a chance to get back to being a quirky flamboyant badass. Mac could do with a few episodes of him settling into the life of a hitman without the accompanying psychological baggage. Undertaker dude and hit-lady need more screen-time. The Broker is a perfect bad guy. Until the final Vietnam flashback he had me convinced he was one of the good guys.

I think there’s great potential for the show to elevate a lot of the background characters and revel in the banter between them all (a la Banshee) without detracting from the overall dramatic mood.

Here’s hoping Cinemax give it a few more seasons.
