Fox Searchlight Pictures has announced that the long-awaited Super Troopers 2 finally has a release date and will arrive on a very appropriate date. The film arrives 16 years after the first, which was a mild box office success and has since become a cult hit.
Everyone’s favorite law enforcement team is back by popular demand with the long-anticipated follow-up to the cult comedy classic Super Troopers. When an international border dispute arises between the U.S. and Canada, the Super Troopers — Mac, Thorny, Foster, Rabbit, and Farva — are called in to set up a new Highway patrol station in the disputed area. Unconventional police work follows, and the result is Super Troopers 2.
Written once again by the Broken Lizard troop, the film is again directed by Jay Chandrasekhar, who also reprises as Trooper Thorny alongside Kevin Heffernan as Rod, Steve Lemme as Mac, Paul Soter as Foster, and Erik Stolhanske as Rabbit. Additional reprisals in the film include Lynda Carter as Vermont Governor Jessman, Marisa Coughlan as Officer Ursula Hanson, and Brian Cox as Captain John O’Hagen.
Newcomers to the sequel include Emmanuelle Chriqui (The Mentalist, TRON: Uprising), Tyler Labine (Tucker and Dale versus Evil), Hayes MacArthur (Angie Tribeca), Will Sasso (The Three Stooges), and Rob Lowe.

An update for those who don't know, they are filming the movie right now. I was surprised how much people contributed. I think it was about 4 million. This movie is gonna be sick! Been waiting over a decade for this.
The first Supertroopers budget was just around $1.5 million, and pulled in just around $8 million on opening weekend (just in the US), and has since pulled in over $24 million dollars with all sales. I am confused about this donation thing. There is PLENTY of money from the first one to do the second one. Not only do they want the general public to foot the bill, but pay to see it as well.
Yeah, as much as I'd like to see a Super Troopers 2, the fact that donations get zero payback, let alone profit, is a big issue. Yeah, actors need to get paid, but if you can't make more money than the movie cost to make, you shouldn't be making the movie. To be fair I think they're hoping some rich Hollywood actors and fans will bankroll them. But yeah they should offer at least your money back, because otherwise they get full funding and get to keep all profits to split between themselves, which doesn't just come off as greedy, it is greedy. And if their salary's are part of the movie budget, not only do they get payed from the start, they also get all the profit as a bonus, which is again, greedy as heck. Maybe they don't expect to make a whole lot of money, but they should restructure the movie. Maybe pitch it to Netflix, because a theater release is way too ambitious, likely wouldn't bring in much profit. Straight to Blu-ray or even online distribution only would be their best bet for maximizing audience and profit.
As much as I love the idea of a Super Troopers 2, I really find it hard to believe that any of the major studios are not jumping at the chance to take on this film. Seriously, it's very widely-known how much of a cult classic the first has become. $2 million is chump change for Paramount, Sony, New Line, etc. They'd easily made $100 million at the box office. Dumb and Dumber To pulled in almost twice that.
