The Maze Runner: The Death Cure

The action-packed film will once again follow Thomas (O’Brien) and his surviving Gladers as they adjust to the post-apocalyptic world outside of the Maze. Our group of heroes will have to battle the forces of WCKD again to try and find a cure to the disease, the Flare, that has decimated most of the population. The teens will also, no doubt, have to find a way through their interpersonal difficulties as they deal with the extremely high stakes of their mission.

The Death Cure is the third installment in the series adapted from James Dashner’s The Maze Runner trilogy. It was originally expected to release in February 2017, but star Dylan O’Brien was injured on set and the film was delayed until 2018. Meanwhile, Red Sparrow is an action thriller from director Francis Lawrence, who reteams with Jennifer Lawrence for the first time since helming the final three installments in The Hunger Games film series.

  • Original title: Maze Runner: The Death Cure
  • Country: USA
  • Director: Wes Ball
  • Writers: James Dashner (novel), T.S. Nowlin (screenplay)
  • Stars: Kaya Scodelario, Nathalie Emmanuel, Dylan O'Brien
  • Release Date: 9 February 2018 (USA)

The Maze Runner: The Death Cure was forced to shut down production after star Dylan O'Brien sustained critical injuries while filming a stunt gone wrong. The accident happened back on March 28. There were conflicting reports about the extent of O'Brien's injuries, and they turned out to be worse than originally reported. On April 29, 20th Century Fox halted all production indefinitely. No resume date has been announced at this time. Reports have claimed that the actor suffered a concussion, a facial fracture and several lacerations from a motorcycle stunt that didn't go according to plan.

In the wake of The Maze Runner 3's delay, 20th Century Fox has moved around some of its other upcoming releases. Director Shane Black's Predator reboot has shifted from March 2, 2018 to February 9, 2018. And two untitled Marvel movies are being swapped around the docket. The first moves from January 12, 2018 to March 2, 2018. The second actually skips back a month, from July 13, 2018 to June 29, 2018. It isn't known what these movies are, but currently sitting without release dates are The New Mutants, The X-Force, Gambit and Deadpool 2.

Plot

Thomas, a teenage boy, is one of the subjects in an experiment conducted by a government agency known as WICKED. When a manmade disease, known as the Flare, is introduced to the human population, WICKED starts running experiments to find a cure. The Flare causes humans to go insane and to become cannibals. Thomas and several of his friends have been an ongoing part of these experiments. The final film follows the last experiment that determines which of the subjects are immune to the Flare and which of the subjects are already ill with the disease. It turns out that Thomas is one of the immune, one of the Munies. When WICKED offers to remove a swipe implant from the subjects' brains to return all of their memories to them, Thomas and a few of his friends opt out of the procedure and plan an escape from WICKED.

Maze Runner may win 1 week at the box office, but it was better off where it was. Black Panther comes out a week after MazeRunner new date.

Any other character would just be killed off to continue production; but not O’Brien. The second movie wasn’t good anyway, so the studio should use the extra time to reassess and improve…

I’m sorry to say this but the ending of the death cure is so sad for me, it disappoint me. Newt beg Thomas to kill him, Brenda and Thomas eventually ended up together. I wished it’s Teresa but Teresa died saving Thomas life. It makes me cry harder and harder :’
